Roses for a Rose

My good girlfriend had her baby girl over the weekend, so I put this diaper cake together for her. She and her husband named their sweet girl, Adelaide Rose, which inspired the overall theme.

Lavender & Turquoise Baby Monkey Shower

We threw a baby shower for my sister-in-law this last weekend. She found a monkey print for baby girl's nursery and we used it as inspiration for her shower theme and decor. I searched far and and wide (thank you internet!) for the exact Monkey Girl from her print and found it. After that, it all fell into place!

Superhero Birthday Party

Boom! Bang! Pow!

My son turned 5 over the weekend and I put together a superhero themed party. He sure loves his superheroes right now and it was only logical to go with that--not to mention, he's been hinting (let's be real; more like begging) for this theme for months. With friends and family celebrating with us, the party was most definitely SUPER!

  Silly string battle
The kiddos absolutely loved this! We bought a boat load of cans and gave each kid their own to spray. It was worth every penny to see their smiling, happy faces. Next time, we'll get one for each adult too!

Guests were encouraged to come in costume and the group of fun-timers below were the ones who came and conquered!

The kids received little goody bags on their way out. The older kids each got a superhero PEZ dispenser in their choice of Spiderman, Iron Man, The Hulk, or Captain America; the younger kiddos were given YumEarth Organic Gummy Bears and YumEarth Organic Lollipops
The birthday boy had a super fun day.
Happy 5th Birthday, kiddo!

Happy Fall!

It's officially fall which means pumpkin spiced everything!!! I love it. When I first saw Lily & Val's print I had to have it somewhere in my house. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, so I decided to make my own chalkboard rendering, greatly inspired by the original at Lily & Val's.
It makes me happy every time I walk past it! Happy Fall, y'all!!

...Then Comes Baby!

Yay! I'm going to be an Aunt!!! My sister-in-law is pregnant with her first baby and asked if I could make her pregnancy announcement. She wanted something theater themed and had a few different ideas of how she wanted it to look. One of those ideas was to make a program of sorts, describing the different Acts of the play as the different stages of their relationship. I used that as a springboard for the ultimate program:
It's the most recognizable program in the world of theater! Why shouldn't their upcoming addition have a play or musical of his/her own? Congrats, Peterson-Brandt family!!!

Be nice to the chef

A new kitchen chalkboard!
I wanted to create a cute chalkboard for the kitchen that would be universally understood and appreciated. With a few upcoming Open Houses scheduled for our house (yes, we're moving!), a little hand crafted art in the kitchen should make potential buyers feel right at home.

Glitter Text Tee with Silhouette

This project couldn’t be easier—that is, if you have a machine that will cut for you. Using a Silhouette Cameo, I made these matching tees for my girlfriend and myself to wear to a Maroon 5 concert. I searched everywhere for something like this, hoping someone out there would be selling it.

No one (that I could find) had thought to make these “Sugar” shirts.

Challenge accepted!

Supplies you’ll need:
Silhouette Cameo
Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl
Ratty tee

1) Design your text.
Type text

2) **Very important: Flip your text horizontally before cutting. If you don’t, the text on your shirt will be backwards…and that’s just awkward.
Flip text horizontally

3) Adjust your cut settings. Select your material type and change the speed and thickness. I opted to use #5 blade (instead of the #3 blade recommended by Silhouette), speed of 5, and thickness of 10. Select double cut.

4) Adjust blade to #5 and load glitter heat transfer vinyl into the machine with the dull side up, shiny side down and send to Silhouette to cut.

5) Peel away the material around your letters very carefully.

6) Apply and place text on shirt where you want it.

7) Once you’re happy with placement, take a ratty old shirt and lay it on top of the text. Use a hot iron to transfer the text onto your shirt.

8) After several passes of the iron, gently pull up on one corner to remove clear plastic. If it doesn’t come off easily, put the ratty shirt back on top of the text and iron again. You’ll know it’s good to go when the plastic peels off easily.IMG 4204

For kicks, I added text on the backs of our shirts too.
Think of all the possibilities!!!

Happy Spring!

I’ve been doing a better job at updating the kitchen chalkboard for the changing seasons and holidays. Yay me! And yay for no Christmas chalkboards in March!

Here’s what I whipped up for Spring!

Typographic Treats

I love Typography. The design, the layout, the use of negative space, letter sizing and spacing, and the chosen font combinations all work together to convey a particular message and gets me all excited!  Couple that with the obsession I have with fonts and it’s a match made in heaven. I love hoarding collecting fonts on my computer! There must be hundreds of them waiting for their turn to be featured in the spotlight.

So, you’ve seen me do digital invites. You've seen me do chalkboard art. Now, I’m going back to the basics: pen and paper. I grabbed inspiration from here and there and started creating typographic treats. I love using quotes and sayings that speak to me and hopefully, they speak to you too.

More on the way! In the mean time, throw a little inspiration my way and send in what quote suggestions you’d like to see featured.
