DIY Pool Sign

We love to entertain in our backyard. Pool parties, barbecues, play dates, birthday parties, family get-togethers, Mommy Mornings, team parties--you name it, we've celebrated it and more. When the party is outside and there's no one to answer the door when guests arrive, I normally put out a sign (usually themed to match whatever occasion we're living it up for) for guests to let themselves in and enter through the side gate. As much fun as it is to create a new sign for each event, there are some days I'd like to just have a ready made sign to slap on the front door and get on with it, i.e. I'm feeling lazy and lacking in creativity. I could just buy one, but you know me, that's not my style.

I bought this...
...and transformed it into this!
Not too shabby for my very first wooden sign, huh?

Using acrylic paint, I painted the white background (2 coats). After it dried, I painted the black arrow and did the lettering. The "splash" was painted next. Once everything was dry, I completed the blue lettering of "pool" (which was the probably the most difficult step of the whole project because the margin for error was slim on top of the already painted splash of water). The let the entire sign dry overnight before sealing with with a thin layer of Mod Podge.

If you need me, I'll be out by the pool!
